How to Make a Resume

Putting together an impressive resume can have a striking impression on any employer. As they say ‘the first impression is the last impression’, a well drafted professional resume with relevant data arranged systematically portrays to the employer that the candidate is systematic in her approach, logical in her thoughts and is result-oriented in nature. Of course, the performance of the candidate in the tests and personal interviews will give an employer the true picture, but the resume more often than not, sets the ball rolling. Here’s how you can write a resume:

  • Make sure you split your resume into fields like personal details that includes date of birth, contact address, email address and phone number; educational qualifications that includes your degrees, achievements in school and college; industry  specific skills like knowledge of computers, soft skills; job experience if any, and hobbies. If you have a job experience, you can include information about projects handled efficiently. Hobbies indicate to the employer that you have an all-round personality and the things that you do to de-stress yourself.

  • While writing about job experience, start with your most recent job at the beginning and then below that list prior job experiences. Same is for educational qualifications. While talking about projects handled in previous offices, do not write elaborate information. Just be specific and to the point. Also it will be better if you do not write the name of clients and projects that you handled for previous employers, because they can be confidential information.
  • Customize your resume according to the job that you are seeking. Personalize your position. The information in your resume should demonstrate why you are the best person for the job.
  • Having a resume that runs into four pages may not impress the employer. It is better if your resume runs to two pages or maximum two and a half pages. If you are straight out of college, it is better to have a one page resume. You can save the rest of information for the interview.
  • Do not clutter your resume with unnecessary information.  Keep the format simple with easy to read fonts.
  • Proofread your resume to make sure there is not even a single error. Trust me; even a single typo can indicate that you have a careless, shabby attitude. So, it is extremely important to see that the resume has no room for any error.

  • don’t get over excited for the job you are applying for when writing your resume – you risk to make it sound unprofessional. If you are excited, people who check your resume are not. Be professional.
