How to Cook Cubed Steak

Cubed steak is a type of beef cut usually taken from the top or bottom round part. The meat needs to be tenderized by using an electric tenderizer or by manually intensely pounding the meat by a wooden mallet or piercing the meat with sharp pointed rods. However, there are special machines designed specifically in tenderizing cube steaks.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 6-8 cubed steaks (or any desired pieces)
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 onions, medium-sized
  • 1 can of celery soup or cream of mushroom
  • 2 tbsp. cooking oil or vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup of catsup
  • Garlic, salt and pepper (small amount)

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle a dash of garlic, salt and pepper onto the sides of each cubed steaks.
  2. Fry your cubed steaks in cooking oil or vegetable shortening. This should be done two at a time.
  3. When done frying, place all cubed steaks back into your pan and place your sliced onions over the steaks.
  4. Mix your water, catsup and cream soup, right after pour this over the steaks and onions. (Note: In place of cream soup you can also use beef broth)
  5. Mix together and start simmer in a low heat partially covered for about 40 minutes or until completely done.
  6. Serve and enjoy the flavorful taste.

How to Cook Stuffed Cubed Steak

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 4 cubed steaks (or any desired pieces)
  • 2 large onions – thickly sliced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • Bread dressing (or dressing of your preference)
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Fry your seasoned cubed steaks on one side.
  2. Apply an amount of dressing on the uncooked side of your cubed steak.
  3. Gently fold your cube steak over crosswise, securing it with toothpick.
  4. Set your sliced onions in a pot and then place your cubed steaks over them. Next pour your mushroom soup straight from the can over your steaks and onions.
  5. Cover your pot and start simmer in a low-heat for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Always remember to shake it from side to side for once in a while to avoid sticking.
  6. You may add vegetable like quartered potatoes in the last remaining 45 minutes of your cooking time.
  7. It’s best served while hot.
