Procedure

  1. Choose suitable location for the fountain near the source of power because the pump will need electricity.
  2. Dig a 2 inch deep hole that is a little wider than the tub you are going to use.
  3. Put the tub inside the hole and leave about four inches sticking out from the ground.
  4. Put some water in the tub so that it is held in place as you fill in the space around it.
  5. Use some of the sand to fill the space around the tub to make sure it is level and firm. The hose will come in handy to get water to make sure the sand is firmly packed.
  6. Paint the cinder blocks in black so that they are not easy to see when in the water. Make sure the insides and sides are covered as well. They should be nearly invisible in the tub. It will take about twenty minutes for the cinder blocks to dry.
  7. Place the blocks inside the water one on top of the other.
  8. Join the tubing with the pump and fasten them using the hose clamp.
  9. Turn the pot upside down and put in the pump near the blocks.
  10. Put the tubing inside the hole that is at the bottom of the pot.
  11. Place the pump on the upper part of the terra-cotta pot and plug it in. At this point, the pot will start to fill with water therefore you should have the hose ready to add more water to the tub.
  12. Use soil and the flat rocks to fill up the parts of the tub that remained exposed.
  13. If you are not yet ready to plant, you can mulch soil around the pot until you are. Use flat rocks to cover the top of the pot.

Some tips

  • If you want your fountain to have a softer look, you can plant something around the tub to make it more appealing.
  • To make sure there are no accidents use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. This will ensure that the electricity supply will be cut off if there is any contact with water.
  • Make sure you adjust the flow of the water after you turn the pump on. This will ensure that the water flows into the tub and not on the grass.

You can see how easy it is to make your own fountain by following these steps.
